In all it's glory, the Del Mar National Horse Show is back for it's 70th year. There is much nostalia surrounding this event for me. I have shown there in years past, and this horse show will always hold signifigance.
It all begins April 16th with Western Week highlighting Night of the Horse on April 18th. Always a crowd favorite, Night of the Horse is an extravaganza of different horsemanship disciplines and extraordinary horses.
Dressage Week begins on April 23 bringing Olympic and World Champion competitors to watch and enjoy. An evening of musical freestyle will take place on April 25th.
Riders will compete for more than $300,000 in prize money during Hunter/Jumper Week, which begins April 28th. We will have the great pleasure of watching world class horses and riders literally setting the bar very high while competing for prestigious titles.
When the horse show began back in 1946, stall rent was $10 for the entire event, and included first bedding. Horse feed cost nothing.
While so much has changed since those humble beginnings long ago, it is still one of my favorites and a much-loved highlight in the show-horse community. With a rich history, this show remains one of the finest in the United States.
